2. This can lower the contrast of the image
3. Enables you to shoot towards the light source, and being reflected inside the lens, without excessive flare
4. Stops light coming into the lens at extreme angles and being reflected inside the lens

NOTE: It will produce shadow when use for:

1. wide angle lens;
2. zoom lens that the focal length is below about 24mm. (eg:14mm,17mm, 18mm)
